Okay, that's a long title. And truth to tell, you can give these super easy chocolate chip cookies to anyone, anytime - they are great all year round, not just the holidays!
You can't make a really great chocolate chip cookie with only five ingredients! That's what they told me. So I says, "Oh yeah! Well, I'll show you, Mrs. Tollhouse! I'll make the crumbiest chocolate chip cookies in the whole wide interweb!"
Our 5 ingredient chocolate chip cookies are easy and they can be as fast as you want, or you can chill and make them nice and slow. You know what happens to brown sugar and butter when they chill in all that creamy dough, lounging in a cool bowl, enjoying that crispy refrigerator air? They get magical. And these cookies get magical. When you scoop them out after a few hours of refrigeratory me time, they retain their dome like shape and keep all that ooey-gooey goodness in their core. A core of chocolate chips that are elevated by all that rich butter. But if you don't want to wait, you can bake these beauties straight away, they will spread a little thinner, and get that golden brown crisp on the sides a little faster but they will be delish melty chocolatey delights just waiting for that milk dunk. Are these even cookie terms?
Here's the recipe:
5 Ingredient Chocolate Chip Cookies
Preheat oven to 350F or 180C
2 1/2 cups self rising flour (282g)
1 cup melted butter (225g)
1 cup brown sugar (200g)
2 cups chocolate chips or the entire bag!
Melt butter and pour into mixing bowl
Add brown sugar and beat until creamy
Add eggs and beat for another 2 minutes
Add the flour and mix until well incorporated
Add chocolate chips - really as much as you want.
Chill for the Chillaxed version. Scoop right away for the I Can't Wait version.
Place rounded scoops about 2 inches apart on greased or parchment paper lined cookie sheet
Bake for 10 minutes. Do not overbake. Then they become cripsies, not cookies.
